MiddleWestern Voice Magazine is Elmhurst University’s art, design, literature, and music journal. All material is the work of Elmhurst University students. Selection is done blindly to ensure objectivity. The journal brings together students, faculty, and patrons of the arts in a celebration of creative talent on campus.
To align with the magazine’s founding vision and commemorate the 150th campus anniversary, we set out to create something truly unique and singular. The concept of a double-sided cover emerged early in the ideation process. By dividing the journal in half, the content was categorized based on the overarching themes of light and dark. Bold colors, including tints and shades, rotated and tilted designs, and playful fonts made the magazine interactive and helped emphasize the themes.
