Marine Bean Coffee is an independent coffee shop based in Pasadena, CA. They have prioritized transparency and ethical sourcing as the cornerstone of their ethos. In addition to cultivating their beans with social responsibility, they have also partnered with the nonprofit Oceanic Society to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on our oceans. Maintaining a minimalist design while ensuring easy visual identification, Marine Bean Coffee strikes a balance between being noticeable and not being overly prominent.
The logo’s design pays homage to Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. With coffee beans, ocean waves, and his trident helping to define the logo’s final shape.
A sans serif wordmark with a crossbar capital ‘I’ was used to tie in the bar in the logo’s trident/crown and was paired with a monospace typeface to create a clean and minimal typographic system.
Three hand-drawn illustrations were created to distinguish between the roasts and provide visual contrast, allowing customers to identify the roasts even before seeing their names.
